The Magisterial House of the Sovereign Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, Knights of Malta, Federation of the Autonomous Priories (KMFAP) is happy to report about the very positive intervention of the Medical Team of our Embassy to Angola (Femeraid Angola Unit) in two major events, which took place recently in Angola: The World Championship of Roller Hockey and the International Half Marathon of the city of Luanda.

1. Medical assistance to the World Championship of Roller Hockey in the Angolan Province of Namibe

The Medical Team of our Embassy (Femeraid Angola Unit) was called by the Ministry of Sports of Angola, following a recommendation of the Ministry of Health of Angola / ENEMA, to set up a Trauma Room inside the Stadium, where the matches of the 2013 World Championship took place. This Trauma Room destined to assist the different national teams participating in this World Championship and the members of the Press.

Besides other minor cases our team played a relevant role in the assistance to an athlete of the United States of America Roller Hockey National Team, who had a serious leg fracture. The Medical Director of the USA National Team expressed his high appreciation for the quality of our Femeraid Medical services and for all the equipment we had in the Trauma Room.

Another very important intervention of our Femeraid Medical Team was in the case of a lady journalist, who suffered an acute abdomen condition, which was diagnosed by our Team in the Stadium by using our echo-graph equipment. The lady journalist was immediately transferred by ambulance to the local Hospital, where she was submitted to an emergency surgery. All ended well, but, if the acute abdomen condition had taken 2 more hours to be detected, then the lady would have surely died.

2. International Half Marathon of the city of Luanda

The Medical Team of our Embassy to Angola (Femeraid Angola Unit) was recently invited to provide medical assistance to the International Half Marathon of Luanda.

A Medical Team composed our volunteers and the inflatable hospital of Femeraid Angola Unit were placed near the arrival point to assist the athletes of the different nations. Fortunately no major incidents happened.

The Magisterial House of the Federation (KMFAP) and the Embassy of the Federation of the Autonomous Priories of the Sovereign Order of St. John of Jerusalem, Knights of Malta, to the Republic of Angola are both proud of the active and competent services rendered by this Femeraid Angola Medical Team, and for the fact that the Knights of Saint John continue saving lives!
